I wondered how many celebrities of some form or fashion have lost their lives while driving or riding in a Porsche street car. I know they've had the nickname of "Widowmaker" for some models, I wondered how true that was.
After a short search, I found an interesting list compiled on Wiki: LINK
I won't post the crushed cars, those that don't have pics of the people with the cars I'll just show a pic of the person.
James Dean - 550 Spyder
Ryan Dunn - 911 GT3
Ben Hollioake - 968 Convertible
Pelle Lindbergh - 930 Turbo
Gionata Mingozzi – Cayman
Bobby Phills - 993 Cabriolet
Vasek Polak - 993 Turbo S
Paul Walker - Carrera GT

Out of the list, only the 930 Turbo (sometimes dubbed the Left's Trojan Horse, by who first I don't know) and the Carrera GT are known for being challenging to drive at best. As far as I know the widowmakers have been the 911 GT2s, most notably the 993.

Correct. That is the car where the term originated. Someone on...Ferrari Chat actually I think...said they had two friends that bought 996 GT2s, and both died in accidents. Both were experienced drivers with track time. Very serious cars, these. Every time someone moans and whines about how Porsches have gone soft after the 73 RS, I like to point them to these kinds of stats.

No offense, but Ryan Dunn's death had nothing to do with the car. His drunkeness killed himself and another person. No one to blame but himself.

No offense taken. I was just listing Porsches in vehicle deaths, not saying they were the cause.

Ah true. I just see that being on this list thanks to the cause of the issue.

I’m sure none of the other deaths involved drugs or alcohol....

You forgot Roger Rodas, he died in a Carrera GT, he was driving while Paul Walker was in the passenger side. A&E owned that car, they did all the work and detail plus mods on that super car, drove it all the time on the track reaching speeds of 200 mph, and that 1 time they take it to a charity event to help raise money, that car was left alone for hours so truth be told anyone could have done somthing to car where once they hit a exact speed anything could have happend. Brake lines, wheel bearings, anything. They were both Professional drivers so they were use to that sort of thing. But Paul Walker did say after Fast 7 he was done with film making, and wanted to spend more time with his daughter., But once you go famous their is no turning back. Anyone could have sabotaged that car at that meet. Anyways, Roger was a famous professional driver for Paul Walkers company A&E.
